Water Heater Repair and Installation
Important Information About NAECA’s New 2015 Hot Water Efficiency Requirements:
Effective April 16, 2015, new energy efficiency regulations for hot water heaters will go in effect that are expected to raise the upfront cost of a new water heater by hundreds of dollars. If your hot water heater will need to be replaced in the near future, consider buying a new one now, before these requirements go into effect.
The U.S. Department of Energy’s National Appliance Energy Conservation Act (NAECA) will require a higher energy factor (EF) rating for water heaters. This means residential water heaters will function more efficiently and use significantly less energy. However, new water heaters that are compliant with the new regulations will be slightly bigger, and will require more space in your home to be installed. They’ll also cost more than the water heaters currently available.
According to industry experts, homeowners can expect to get back the extra upfront costs over time, thanks to the energy-savings of the new water heaters.

Water Heater Repair
There are several signs that your water heater needs to be fixed. The most obvious problems are no hot water at all and/or leaks around the tank. But, if you notice that your hot water has a bad smell or a strange color, it could be an indication that the water heater tank needs to be flushed and cleaned.
Because of the dangers of working with gas lines or a combination of electricity and water, water heater repairs are a dangerous do-it-yourself task. The experienced plumbers at Raby Plumbing are specially-trained to safely fix both gas and electric tankless and tank storage water heaters. Our technicians can help with other common water heater issues, including replacing the pressure relief valve or installing a new thermocouple. For problems that are beyond repair, we can recommend and install a replacement water heater.
Types of Water Heaters
Many homes in the U.S. use tank storage water heaters. These models use electricity or gas to heat many gallons of water at once. The water cools as it sits in the tank until it’s needed, so the heating element turns on periodically to reheat it. Using a lot of hot water in a short time can deplete the supply. Tank storage water heaters typically last 10-15 years.
A tankless water heater, also called an on-demand heater, heats water only as it’s needed, so it uses less energy than a tank storage model. Tankless water heaters use can also use gas or electricity for heating, and they never run out of hot water. There’s typically a higher initial cost than tank storage models, but tankless water heaters typically last more than 20 years.
